Runners suffer from a variety of injuries. The cause of these can be split into 3 groups:
1. Trauma - These can happen at any point and include twisted ankles and medial ligament sprains of the knee
2. Overuse Injuries - These can occur in muscles and joints and are caused by continual strain in the tissues. If the tissues do not have a chance to recover then injury will occur.
3. Bio-mechanics - Faulty bio-mechanics can lead to a change in stresses through the body. These changes can lead to a break-down in tissues causing a runners injury.
A pro-active approach to running can help to prevent a lot of these injuries. A musculo-skeletal screening will highlight potential areas of weakness than can lead to injury. If potential problem areas are highlighted then they can be improved upon which will improve your performance and help prevent injury.
